St. Tammany Clerk of Court Melissa R. Henry seeks re-election

St. Tammany Clerk of Court, Melissa R. Henry, has announced that she will be seeking a second term in the election set for October 12, 2019.

“I am proud to serve as your Clerk of Court, and to say that I have met and exceeded the goals I set when I ran and was elected Clerk of Court in 2015,” said Henry.

The Clerk of Court’s office is a fee-for-service agency and does not receive taxpayer funds to operate. Henry manages the office with the same approach she used in the 10 years of owning her own mortgage company in Slidell, and with the experience she gained while working as a deputy clerk and Land Records Department Head under her predecessor. Operating the Clerk’s office as a corporation has allowed Henry to reduce overhead and expenses, to add equipment and software that enhances the customer service experience, and to improve working conditions for the 150 clerks on staff, all while keeping fees below the statute limits and opposing fee increases.

The 2018 annual fiscal audit and the Legislative Audit of the 2017 agreed-upon procedures both received no findings and no recommendations, validating Henry’s commitment to best practices. “Improved internal controls provide better transparency and consistency, which is something that the public deserves”, Henry stated. “We provide a very important service to the citizens of St. Tammany Parish. They must be able to trust and have confidence that we will preserve the integrity of the official public records.”

The Clerk of Court’s office has received many accolades under Henry’s leadership. It has been awarded “Top Workplace” by Nola.com in both 2018 and 2019. The Clerk’s Passport Department was recognized in 2017 for exceptional customer service by the U.S. Department of State (only 6 out of over 7,000 facilities received this award). It has also been recognized for excellence in e-Recording by CSC.

“I ran for Clerk of Court to serve the public. I have enjoyed every day of my first three years in office and I am asking the voters to allow me to continue to serve for another term.”

Election day is Saturday, October 12th, 2019.

The St. Tammany Parish Clerk of Court office is located at 701 N. Columbia St. in Covington. 985-809-8700. sttammanyclerk.org.
